Innovation often begins with a simple question: How can technology serve people who are usually left behind? For Matchiffo Ynna Merveille, a software engineering student based in Bamenda, this question became the driving force behind PACE7 (Patriotic Artificial Intelligence for Cybersecurity and Edge Computing).

While pursuing a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Software Engineering, he has combined academic knowledge with hands-on experience, transforming classroom concepts into practical solutions that respond to Africa's unique technological realities.

Unlike most artificial intelligence platforms that depend on continuous internet connectivity, PACE7 was designed for environments where reliable internet access cannot be taken for granted. Built around a Raspberry Pi 5 and supported by a mobile application, the platform delivers powerful AI services entirely offline. Its integrated modules perform critical tasks such as cyber threat detection, phishing SMS analysis, deepfake identification, misinformation verification, crop disease diagnosis, and digital literacy training, allowing users to benefit from advanced AI regardless of their network conditions.

PACE7 serves a broad spectrum of beneficiaries, including farmers, educational institutions, journalists, public administrations, security agencies, and ordinary citizens. By making sophisticated AI tools accessible in remote and underserved communities, the project strengthens cybersecurity, promotes digital literacy, supports agricultural productivity, and combats the spread of misinformation. More importantly, it demonstrates that digital inclusion is not simply about providing internet access but about ensuring that innovation reaches everyone, regardless of location.

Developed while balancing academic responsibilities with leading a multidisciplinary team, PACE7 has evolved from an ambitious concept into a functional prototype supported by a comprehensive business strategy and prepared for presentation at the 2026 Digital Innovation Week. Looking ahead, its creator envisions deploying the solution across schools, farming communities, businesses, and public institutions before expanding throughout Africa, establishing PACE7 as a homegrown AI platform that delivers secure, inclusive, and locally adapted technological solutions for the continent's future.
