This was during a high-level consertation meeting presided at by Minister Minette Libom Li Likeng with Cameeoon's mobile telephone operators and the sector's regulator on Thursday 27th April in the meeting room of her cabinet.
The persistent complaints of the high costs and the deteriorating quality of electronic communication services offered by mobile telephone operators in Cameroon instigating the "operation airplane mood 237" from 12 noon - 2 pm daily by consumers, did not leave Minister Minette Libom Li Likeng indifferent. To this effect, a high-level consultation meeting was presided at by the Minister with the operators and the regulator of the sector with agenda to improve the quality of services offered in Cameroon as well as consumer protection.
Present at the meeting was the General Manager of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board, Pr. Philemon Zoo Zame, the General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications, Judith Yah Sunday, the General Manager of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Kaemba Ng'ambi, the General Manager of ORANGE Cameroon, Patrick Benon, all accompanied by their commercial and technical collaborators.
The Minister's observations held that despite the efforts of the operators, consumers seem not to be satisfied with the quality of service rendered by the conveyed and it is of the resort of her ministerial department to ensure that these parties respect their engagements and responsibilities. However, each operator took turn to explain the measures adopted to better the quality of services in the days ahead.
Main while, the lack of adequate sensitization on the part of the operators with respect to their offers and costs as well as attitude to adopt by consumers is partly blamed to be the catelyst of the numerous complaints.
The Minister to this effect produced a final communiqué on the resolutions of the meeting and ended by promising to continue working towards ensuring that the citizens benefit from reliable, affordable and non-discriminatory access to electronic communications services, be it internet or telephony in general.
