National Coalition for the promotion of cyberscurity counts 936 more members
936 participants at the 8th edition of the ICT Holiday Camps organized from the 20-24 August 2024 in Edea, swore to remain true to the course to promote cybersecurity and the responsible use of social media during the closing ceremony presided at by MINPOSTEL boss.


At the closing ceremony of the 8th edition of ICT Holiday Camps held in Edea from the 20 – 24th August 2024, 936 young people promised to remain true to the course of fighting cybercriminality, online hate speech and fake news after receiving week long training and sensitization on cybersecurity and the responsible use of social media.
The event that was presided at by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, on August, 24th 2024, in Government High School Edea, was placed under the theme “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and challenges for patriotic youths”,.
In her closing speech, the Minister elaborated on the objectives of the camps summarized as; to promote and vulgarize ICTs and bridge the digital divide between urban, semi urban and rural areas.
The Minister added to her message the new aspect of ICTs notably, Artificial Intelligence (AI), known for effectively and efficiently carrying out tasks necessitating human intelligence such as vocal recognition, understanding of languages, decision making, and visual perception. She described AI as an unavoidable and indispensable tool coated with risks in terms of security, privacy as well as malicious use for cyber attacks or manipulation of information.
However, the Minister declared government’s determination in maximizing its use and reduce the risks as much as possible across sensitization and regulation of the sector.
Addressing the youths, the MINPOSTEL boss congratulated them for their devotedness and foreknowledge in ICTs, that has been reinforced with the program throughout their stay in the camps, thereby well-equipped to face the coming challenges of artificial intelligence.”
The Minister’s satisfaction lies in the fact that there is hope for the future in terms of cybersecurity. “I leave behind youths that will take up the relay and make responsible use of social media. Youths who have understood that artificial intelligence and digital technology is within their reach. Don’t be passive followers but remain connected, patriotic and civic while online in a bid to get the best out of this technology. Use ICTs to transmit a positive image of your country. Believe in yourself and put to use your talents, Cameroon counts on you”. She concluded.
To encourage the youths at this event, was the Deputy Secretary of the Cameroon National Youth Council, expert in MINDSET Education, Mr. DAVE NAMENENE who galvanized the young people to make use of their youth and not to be derailed by illicit activities for the future is determined and crafted by them.
107 scholarships were awarded by the African Institute of Computer Science (IAI), to outstanding young people at the camps to further their training in the domain. Twenty desktops, two laptops, two smart screens of 65 inches, two mini external units, digital tension regulators, twenty WIFI keys, 5 colour printers and four internet modems were offered by MINPOSTEL to learning institutions, administrative authorities and digital training centers.
Present at the event was the Divisional Officer for Sanaga Maritime, the Mayor of Edea Town, the Secretary General of MINPOSTEL and MINESEC, Members of parliament, the Resident Representative of IAI Cameroon, Director Generals of public and private structures and a host of others.
