Sanaga Maritime administrative and local authorities sensitized
The exchange between MINPOSTEL and the authorities of Sanaga Maritime, on the opportunities, stakes and challenges of cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI),took place in the Edea 1 Town Hall, on August 23rd, 2024, within the framework of the 8th edition of the ICT Holiday Camps organized from 20 – 24 August, 2024.

 

To continue striving for an unbeatable and solid National Coalition for the promotion of cybersecurity and the responsible use of social media, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, took to the Sanaga Maritime in the Littoral Region of Cameroon to have a working session with administrative and local authorities within the context of the 8th edition of the ICT Holiday Camps organized in Edea from the 20 – 24, August 2024.
In his welcome address, the Mayor of Edea Town, Mr. Albert Emmanuel Nlend, expressed his gratitude over the choice of the Minister to organize the ICT Holiday Camps in Edea. He seized the opportunity to present Edea as a town of electricity, full of opportunities considering its strategic geographical location situated between the economic and political capitals of Cameroon.
In her opening address, the Minister made a presentation exposing the realities of digital technology and its transversal nature, stating that no country is spared by this reform. She emphasized that though this technology has come with opportunities, caution must be exercised in its use. “The more we are connected the more we are exposed to risks”, reason for her visit to exchange with the population.
According to Minister Minette Libom Li Likeng, no data is ever truly deleted. “All what we post is saved and they constitute our digital print, therefore don’t compromise your future and position with illicit actions, be patriotic and civic while navigating on social media platforms”.
The 8th edition placed under the theme: “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and challenges for patriotic youths”, prompted the Minister to mandate the officials to consider and relay as information the friendly and indispensable nature of AI as well as its opportunities in fields such as education, health and agriculture. “Artificial Intelligence is the new comer, we need not be afraid but better master it by controlling and safeguarding our data, train young people to elaborate their proper algorithm to avoid to be colonized”.
The Minister went a satisfied boss looking at the quality of exchange with the authorities. She therefore commissioned them by handing sensitization kits to the Divisional Officer of Sanaga Maritime, Mr. Yvan Cyrille Abondo to continue the sensitization right into the hinterlands of his jurisdiction in favour of Cameroon’s digital economy.
As a mother, bothered by the living conditions of her children, Minister Minette Libom Li Likeng, together with the officials and other participants visited the camps (Government High School and Government Technical High School Edea), that hosted the young people. She left satisfied at the organization.
