Minpostel's visit to Japoma stadium, Douala is Technically ready Internet wise to cover the 2021 AFCON.


The Minister of P&T gives a pass mark to the telecommunications infrastructure and services put in place for a successful internet supply during the 2021 AFCON in the respective centres of interest in Douala.

To esure a quality and consistent internet connection during the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Minette Libom Li Likeng, paid a working visit to Douala on Monday 22 November, 2021 to inspect the telecommunications infrastructure put in place, in preparation for the said event.

The visit which was in compliance with the directives of the Head of Government had as main objective to ensure that all what was assigned to her area of competence is met to the letter. This comprised of; the work and services of connecting some centres of interest to the optical fibre, the construction of a pylon at the Japoma sports complex, the deployment of shared indoor solution to optimize the various network coverage and the supply and installation of equipment for the media and IT areas.
After inspection of the infrastructure in the different centres of interest notably the Japoma stadium, the Kristal and Onomo hotels that will lodge the CAF delegation and the players respectively, the Minister noted with satisfaction that Cameroon was ready to host the 2021 AFCON come January and February while assuring the Government's engagement in optimizing the internet capacities in these centres during the games without extra charges.
She however observed some exigencies that were not initially mentioned in the plan but promised to make it a priority.
Overall, the Minpostel boss called on all the operators to join forces for the success of this great event which the Head of State himself is extremely keen in its organisation.
